How to Manage a User's Swivel Allowance
A user's Swivel allowance controls how many times per week they can initiate a spin for someone else. The default is 2 trigger credits per week per user. This is separate from how many times a user can receive a spin, which has no limit.
Note
Allowance only controls triggering (initiating spins), not receiving spins. A user can be spun for unlimited times regardless of their allowance setting.
How to edit
Open the Swivel app
Launch Swivel from your Slack sidebar and navigate to Settings.
Go to Users
Click the Users tab within Settings to see your full team list.
Find the user and click Edit Swivel Allowance
Locate the team member whose allowance you want to change and click Edit Swivel Allowance next to their name.
Set a new weekly limit and save
Enter the number of trigger credits per week for this user, then save. Changes take effect immediately.
Notes
- Set to 0 to prevent a user from triggering any spins at all. This is useful for read-only team members who should only receive recognition, not initiate it.
- Increase it for team leads or managers who run regular recognition ceremonies — setting it to 10 or higher is common for active recognition champions.
- Changes are immediate. There's no delay — the new limit takes effect as soon as you save.
- Admin-only spinners override this. Even if a user has allowance credits remaining, they cannot trigger a spinner that's been set to admin-only mode.
Tip
Consider setting a higher allowance for your recognition program champions — the teammates who drive culture and are most likely to celebrate others. Giving them more credits keeps the recognition flowing without requiring admin involvement every time.
