Triggering a spin means initiating the prize wheel for a specific teammate — nominating them to spin and potentially win a prize. There are two ways to do this in Swivel.

Method 1: From the app

1

Open the Swivel app

Launch the Swivel app from your Slack sidebar and navigate to Spinners from the menu.

2

Select a spinner

Choose the spinner you want to use for this recognition moment.

3

Click Trigger Spinner

The Trigger Spinner button appears at the top of the spinner's page. Click it to open the spin dialog.

4

Choose a user and channel, then spin

Select the teammate you're recognizing and the Slack channel to post the spin in. Click Spin! to fire the spin.

Method 2: Slash command

For the fastest way to trigger a spin without leaving your conversation:

  1. Type /Swivel in the Slack search bar or in any message box
  2. Select the spinner you'd like to use from the list that appears
  3. Follow the prompts to choose a user and channel

Tip

The slash command is the fastest way to spin for someone right in the flow of conversation — great for celebrating wins as they happen in your team channels.

Trigger limits

By default, users get 2 trigger credits per week to initiate spins for others. This controls how many times a user can be the one triggering a spin — not how many times they can be spun for (which is unlimited).

Admins can adjust this in Settings > Users > Edit Swivel Allowance. You can increase it for team leads who run a lot of recognition, or decrease it to manage spin volume.

Important

If a spinner is set to admin-only, regular users cannot trigger it even if they have trigger credits remaining. Only workspace admins can trigger admin-only spinners.
