Slack apps and bots are awesome tools that help improve productivity, boost morale, allow custom notifications, and more. While some apps work solely in their own “app space,” some can be added to a channel and post within it. This blog post covers how to remove an app from your Slack channels.

Before we begin, speaking of fun and exciting apps, be sure to check out Swivel, the spin-to-win app for Slack! Swivel helps teams boost morale, recognize each other, and have fun.

There are two ways to remove an app from a channel.

Option 1:

  1. Navigate to the channel
  2. Click on the channel name at the top
  3. Tap the Integrations tab
  4. Click on the app you’d like to remove, and click “Remove this app from #channel”

Option 2:

  1. Navigate to the channel
  2. Type /remove @{appname} where ‘appname’ is the name of your app

Type /remove to remove any app from your Slack channel

Note that the process for removing apps that post in the channel based off of webhooks is different than removing an app you’ve added. If you remove an app that posts messages from webhooks, they may be able to continue posting depending on their app permissions.
